Being in the heart of the city Graben Vienna is near many of the important attractions
of the city.
Spanish riding school - Located just one block
away the world famous Spanish Riding School is open to
the public to view regular training and practice
St. Stephan Cathedral - This gothic
masterpiece was developed around 1500 but has continued
to be maintained and improved. Most recently the massive
damage in the last days of WWII is now completely
repaired, with a decorative ceramic roof of tiles
donated by individuals of the city. Inside find Baroque
elements overlaying the gothic foundation, with touches
of renaissance humanism as well. Look out for the
sculpted "selfies" in stone of some of the master
builders and stonemasons who worked on the original
project 500 years ago.
St. Peter's Church - A Roman Catholic Baroque
church first build in the early middle ages it has been
rebuilt many times. The structure seen today is from the
early 18th century and contains many value artifacts
including the sculpture by Steinl of the Holy Trinity.
Naschmarkt - A top destination for all
visitors to the city you will find here the same fruit
and vegetables for sale that before the 18th century
could be found in the Graben market. But today
Naschmarkt is more than just a produce market, it is
also a place to get cooked and prepared foods either to
take away or to sit at small cafes and outside stalls
and lunch or snack or simply have a drink while people
watching. At weekends there is also a large flea
market here, the biggest in the city and packed full of
trinkets and antiques.
